Panasonic NV 7200 not rewinding /forwarding - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hi guys, I have a Panasonic NV 7200 and changed all the belts. Originally, nothing worked at all. The issue is with the idler. When I moved it to the left, the tape played and was able to rewind but didn't forward at all. When I moved the idler to right, play and rewind didn't work but the forward did.

Is it the tyre or the whole idler that's messed up? Where do I get the parts from?

There's also a noise coming from the head but the picture is clear.

If you can get the whole idler assembly that should cure it, but it will be the tyre that is the problem. Donberg Electronics seem to have a lot of the spares.

The entire assembly should come out. You then remove the tyre and fit a new one. But it's simpler to fit a new assembly if you can get one.

You can try rubber renue on the idler tyre. The complete idler assy part number is VXP0344 and it's available from Donberg.

The noise from the video head may just mean the discharge spring that bears on the top spindle is in need of a tiny spot of grease.

Thanks guys. I tried to buy from Donbergs but I have to spend at least £20 for them to send the item. Don't know what to buy because I've changed all the belts
