Default Solartron Vari-Pack SRS153-2 mains fuse

Dear members,

I' ve got a PSU Solartron Vari-Pack SRS 153-2. I do have the cirquit layout but I guess they (Solartron ) forgot to mention the mains fuses value.

I know this PSU takes 140VA. So using mains 230 volts that makes in normal operation 600 mA.

What fuse should I use .. cause switching on takes more than 600 mA.

bets regards,

Qwenix

Mine has a 3A fast blow mains fuse. Is this correct? Perhaps, perhaps not. The HT fuse is 250mA on the circuit diagram.

I fitted an HT switch to mine, so that you can set the voltage before you connect to the load.

I have just acquired on of these and mine has a 3A RS antisurge fitted.
Although I do seem to have a problem with the HT output. I get 230Vac and no adjustment? I thought this supply was DC 0-500V? Any help or guidance gratefully received.

H+ and H- defference should deliver (mine does) almost full scale deflection 55OV = rectified. Against chassis no rectified voltage measurable (digital meter) Only Ac difference 73 Volts~.

The other 3.2 V AC ~ against chassis so 2 times makes difference 6.4 V~ AC

Best regards

DrSound, welcome to the forum. It looks almost impossible for the HT output to be 230VAC. It would be very difficult for AC to get through the rectifiers and the series stabilisers. I've attached the schematic in case you don't already have it.

We don't yet know your level of expertise when working with valves and high voltages. Please be aware that the voltages and currents in this unit are potentially lethal.

Thank you for the schematic Pppppenguin.
I am a RF engineer with little valve experience wishing to modify some valve audio amps. I have acquired a bit of kit for my home lab., including the vari-pak and am firstly determining that the kit functions correctly. I will print off the schematic and re-measure outputs.

The problem is that the forum software automatically re-sizes images. I'll try it inside a zip file.
