Default Garrard SP25 MkIII - Fidelity housing - Phonos for speakers

Hi

I have a Garrard SP25 MkIII in a Fidelity Housing on my dining room table. The transport seems to have the same issues as the MkII I recently restored. I am reasonably happy I can sort the fact the tone arm sticks halfway through the playing action.

First things first. The unit has a built in tuner / amp and I want to see if the whole affair works. However the speakers outs seem to be phono and I am not sure of which was around to wire the speaker cables or what Ohms to hang of the end of them.

Any thoughts?

David

Standard should be +ve pole (centre) -ve outer shroud - most important is they are connected in phase, ie, the same way to each speaker (or you lose the stereo image). Selection of nominal speaker impedance will depend on the output of the amp but you should be safe enough with 8 ohms.

You are sure these are speaker outputs? The Americans often use RCA phono outs for speakers, but it is unusual in Europe.

It says "speakers right and left" above the phonos... not conclusive proof with old kit but a pretty good guide...

Aha! That's what they want you to think!......as you say - that's a pretty good clue.

Sounds like the Fidelity UA1, which does indeed have speaker outputs via phono sockets:

That is the one although the tone arm and the platter are slightly different.

Lovely looking deck!

yes it is a bit different, some one has managed to fit a SME type fitting headshell on it!!!! that will do wonders for the tracking angle
