As Lawrence says, this is a really good and informative watch! As I recall, Will Self also did a program about the relatively unknown JCM on Radio 4 at the same time-arriving at his former home in an electric car!!

If I can tag this on here as well, the next item on BBC4 was the much repeated " The Secret Life of Waves" - ocean not radio but this is an extraordinary essay on human existence in the end having morphed from a very good science doc into something else-highly recommended

Who is this other, 'relatively unknown' James Clerk Maxwell?
I only know the famous one!

I guess he is unknown to people who have never studied physics?

Yes that's what I meant. He didn't hit the headlines like Einstein/Marconi/Alexander G Bell et al but was clearly an extraordinary pioneer in the Scottish scientific tradition in the electromagnetic "field" that underpins everything else-probably "the power of waves" as well. I think Mr Self spent time pondering why this great man wasn't more generally known.

I knew about him as a kid from a Ladybird book.
