Default Alan Lord's website?

Does anybody know what happened to Alan Lord's website? I have not been able to access it for a long time.

Hi,

It was working the other day (and still is now), though maybe the URL has changed?

I found it via Google ('alan lord radio', it's the first result), here.

Cheers, Kat

Thank you both for the link-great stories! The second of the new ones "Never Trust A Customer" reminded me of my one period in the TV Trade delivering sets as a student job-two men and me in a Coop van!
Without too much boasting, I was definetely more knowledgeable than my colleagues at seventeen. The "tech" was inordinately proud of the brand new heavy duty side cutters he had bought himself [tools relatively expensive then]. Unfortunately we had a customer who asked us to rejig a mains extension lead [also heavy duty] as a part of the job and who assured us that it was unplugged. After a minor explosion my depressed workmate was sitting there, smoke rising, as he held up his cutters with a neat bullet hole drilled through the blades.
I don't think the tool was even insulated so he was lucky but this didn't stop us laughing all week. Dave

Actually there's an excellent project on there. It's under 'Cool Things to Build Yourself.'

The fourth one listed is the HV Insulation Tester. Among all the other things it can do, it can also clear Control Grid Leaks. A bit of a money saver....

Cheers,

Steve P

It certainly is a good site and as Dave says, the stories are great! I found this site by mistake ages ago and promptly forgot about it

Cheers for the reminder. I can finish off reading the stories now

This thread is coming up for nine years old, but I'm sure Alan's website was still available until fairly recently.

It's gone now though. Does anyone know where it's gone to?

Just got this- no help I'm afraid.....

Hello Chris

Alan Lord was a member of Staff at the college many years ago but unfortunately we have no information regarding this whatsoever!

Sorry we can’t be of any help.

Kind Regards

Thanks for your efforts Chris.

I was looking for details of Alan's heater-cathode short zapper.

Have a play around with the "Wayback machine" - https://archive.org/web/ - you may find something of the old site there.

See this post, where a forum member implies that he's been in contact with Alan relatively recently: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...8&postcount=13]

Maybe he knows more?

I took G6Tanuki's suggestion and had a go over at the Wayback Machine. The machine stored one of Alan's pages ("On the Lighter Side…") back in February 2009. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to have saved any of the pages to which that page links.

I had better luck when I changed the domain name from 'old.dundeecollege' to 'www.dundeecollege'. The machine saved a copy of 'http://www.dundeecoll.ac.uk/Sections/CS/Staff/al_radio/' 233 times over a number of years, though it looks as if this page became unavailable after August 2007.

You can see the last version saved here. Most of the links work (except for some frame weirdness with the galleries) and the high-voltage inter-electrode zapper page is still there!

The Wayback Machine is a very useful resource maintained by the Internet Archive. They're a not-for-profit organisation and you can donate if you feel inclined (I have no connection to it except as a satisfied user).
