Default MW,LW and VHF-FM on final notice??.......

Hi all,

There has been recent announcements that the AM and FM bands are to be "withdrawn" in the future-no date has yet been set, but I think it has got everyone up in an uproar! The DAB radio sets are being pushed relentlessly, but there is much Public apathy towards them. I am the only person out of my Family and friends who own a DAB radio. Honestly! . They are useless in a car, heavy on batteries, and squawk badly if recieving a poor signal. Normal radios are everywhere, easy to use, will give results even when the batteries are low, dont need retuning every 12 miles in a vehicle....

Whats that all about?

The AM and FM bands are really heavily used over here in the U.K, with many local and specialist stations transmitting on MW, and BBC Radio 4 on 1500M LW. There was a serious uproar a few years ago, when they tried to drop the LW band transmitter at Droitwich--you can pick up Radio 4 all over the British Isles, and large parts of Europe when driving there. I know a lot of people in France and the Netherlands who use Radio 4 LW. All this will stop when the crap DAB takes over. We will be left with poor, squawking radio that is a deaf as a post concerning another transmitter only perhaps 25 miles away--it wont pick it up! And, of course, we wont be able to listen to other Countries on our sets--perhaps that the REAL reason for it..........the Nazis thought similar, to keep their people not knowing whats going on in the World........... Only tell them what you WANT them to know..............what do you all think? Do you have a DAB set-up? Will it compromise sharing news and information? Imagine, for example, with Zimbabwe's borders closed, and a DAB set up--no one would ever know whats going on in their country in the outside World! You can with AM, as it carries a long way, and the real news can get out-- internet can be stopped, and tv is limited in transmission range. AM type Radio IS the only true proper mass communication for the World. This applies all over the Globe-- Ian J

We've been here countless times and we are not opening this can of worms again.
