Hello everyone,

It is less than two weeks now until the BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett radio meeting and Auction on the 3rd of July.

The table bookings are coming in fast so if you want to book a table then get in touch asap!

Usual sort of size auction 250 - 300 lots. The Bring & Buy tables and also a Museum fund raising table with raffle prizes.

The BVWS stall will be there stocked with high voltage electrolytic and polyester capacitors of all the types we need and use for vintage radio & TV.

It's going to be another bumper day so mark it in your diary now.

Doors open at 9:30am for STALLHOLDERS

GENERAL OPENING for everyone is 10:00am

Auction start at approx. 12:30pm

The usual Bring & Buy tables will be in operation in the side annex.

The Kitchen will be in full swing with plenty of hot and cold food throughout the day.

See you all there,

Mike...

Excellent Mike, really looking forward to it. I will be there as usual to lend a hand, I have a couple of items I'd like to put in the auction if I may, is it ok to bring them up and lot them in on the day?

Cheers Mike, all the best and see you and the team Sunday

I am currently working on the Auction catalogue and pictures.

These will be made available on the BVWS website later this week (depending on the weather as I need to do the pictures outside).

There will be a notification on here when it is all available.

There are currently four Stalls still available for the event if anyone has not yet booked a table. Get in touch with me asap.

I've a few odds and ends for the B&B, and am wondering if I can price and label them up as with the NEC, to save time on the day?

We use a different system at RWB to NEC.

There is a label I will see if I can find a copy that Barrie normally prints but unfortunately he wont be at this meet.

If I get a chance I will recreate it so you can do before the day.

Cheers

These labels are a bit bigger than the originals but the same format so acceptable.

Print these out and attach to your B&B items.

If you want to add a further label that explains the condition or history that's fine it will will stay with the set.

These labels are to ensure the seller gets paid

Please ensure even if your donating items that if they don't sell you pick them up at the end of the day, your generosity can become a big problem of disposal at the end of the day if no one wants to take an item on

Please also bear in mind that the B&B staff are collectors as well ( I have been a BVWS member for more than 30 years) bear that in mind when the auction is on and we are ignoring you!

Cheers

Mike T, that's a great help. I certainly don't expect you to be on the stall during the auction.

Others will have spotted this, but it looks to me that lot 232 is a pair of Lechlanche cells, not Leyden jars, minus zinc rods. 246 is a Leyden jar. But heartfelt thanks to Mike for his compiling the catalogue and photographing it all, despite the ever present possibility of a deluge.

Damn! I'm not perfect after all, just practically perfect.....

I have changed both descriptions on the BVWS auction database, but the catalogue will still be wrong.

Thanks for the correction, I will now know for the future.

See you all Sunday.

An enjoyable WB today, I would like to say a big thankyou to Mike and the gang for all their hard work, it is greatly appreciated. It was great to meet up with friends and acquaintances of our little fraternity, having some banter and swapping anecdotes! I also picked some good sets and more than a few bargains! And the weather was behaving!

Thanks Mike and the team for an enjoyable day. Catering was up to its usual high standards and enjoyed meeting up with everyone.
I came away with a tidy Roberts R24 from the auction and a Mini Mod which I bought from Ian. I have already tried this out playing my iPod through my Hacker Hunter and it sounds superb.
Mike that was the best impression of a burbling DAB signal that I have ever heard.

A good day for me, too. Some interesting natters and a few more things I didn't know I needed plus two that I definitely wanted- an Ever Ready B (Marconi P17B clone) and a helpfully misdescribed as a TR82 VTR103 in rather nice condition (non working) complete with a good aerial AND its little red pip.

I also got a "marmite" radio- I like marmite. Actually it's a rather interesting Deco styled RI 451 "Ritz Airflow".

An MB60 was too much as was a nice Sony multiband set (with a BFO) so they went home with others .

The day was enlivened somewhat when someone "from another planet" took a stallholder to task for selling him a 60W soldering iron described as working "which must be wrong because I've measured its resistance and it's 900 ohms which means it's almost open circuit!"

Now, would anyone like three BNIB Brimar 'scope tubes?

Thanks to all for their hard work; now who managed to arrange the weather?

60 watts is about 0.25A on a 240V supply. 0.25A X0.25A X 900R gives 56.25 watts. About right I'd say.

Although the auction was hard work for us up on stage, especially being a man down (Russell) and having 290 lots to get through, it was actually very enjoyable, in part because of the high quality of the lots.

There were many models we have seen several times before, but this time we had excellent examples in great condition which made justifiably good prices. There were also a few sets I have never seen before, which always adds to the interest.

Mike got through the auction quickly too, with the whole thing only taking about 3.5 hours including a break.

Thank you to the gent who let me queue-jump in the kitchen during the break and who also kindly paid for my drink. Thank you also to all the successful bidders who were patient and cheerful throughout the payment and collection process. It all helps keep our stress levels down!

Don't forget the two special auctions at RWB on 9th October 2016 and 5th February 2017. These will be auction only events with at least 400 lots each.

Thanks are due to all for a very enjoyable day, which is obviously hard work for all those who organise, porter, and provide the refreshments.

I hope the person who mistakenly, ( I hope) walked off with a big box of 1920's radio parts at the end of the auction realised they weren't his, and brought them back!

The gent who had issues with his soldering iron, took the poor stall holder to task whilst the auction was in full flow......most disconcerting!
