The 252 Long wave signal has seemed a little stronger the past week or so than it has been recently. Just conditions maybe/

if only either transmitter could move up 9kHz to 261kHz.

Is there any good reason this couldn't be internationally agreed considering 261kHz is now unused across Europe and the upper adjacent 270kHz frequency is not used anywhere nearby?

The Irish Post ran a front page story on this subject last week.

RTE want to shut it down as they think the very high cost of electricity to run this service could be better spent on Digital streams, or possibly renting space on a DAB mux. It was due to go off late last year but pressure from the ex-pat community in the UK gave it a stay of execution. It runs much lower power at night but even daytime is 3dB down on what it was when Atlantic 252 ran a service from the same site. The original Atlantic 252 Continental transmitter was replaced about 5 years ago for a new higher efficiency solid state transmitter that is also capable of DRM broadcasts.
