Default Playing video through a TV22.

Hello

I have a Bush tv22. I am working on a 50's underwater theme similar to Captain Nemo for a nonprofit free club called laptop lounge. I have not tested the Bush Tv22 but would like to convert it to accept video and possibly audio in. I understand that it accepts VHF. I was thinking to use an Rf modulator to convert video and audio into UHF rf I think.

Has anyone got any experience with this or know any links or information regarding this subject. I have a little understanding of electronics and am learning at home.

I am looking for a way to convert UHF to VHF.

The UHF coming from the RF modulator receiving video from DVD player.

My Idea is to have someone on the Bush TV22 welcoming people into the club.

Thanks

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Have you any reliable information of the condition of this television?

Forget video for the moment. If you don't have the knowledge yourself then please have this set checked and overhauled as required by a competent person. Television receivers have the potential to be highly dangerous. Also, this particular model is quite valuable if in good order and as original as the march of time permits.

I'm going to support what Darren says. If you plug a TV like this into the mains without having it checked, it could well go bang and damage irreplaceable parts. Might damage you too, but this forum is about TV sets, not people!

Even if it did work, it will certainly need things changing anyway after all this time. So get someone qualified to look at it.

You will then need a Standards Converter as the signals that set receives (405 lines) were stopped in 1985. These cost over £200 at the moment. Then you plug your video into that, at Baseband (not the video modulator sockets) and away you go.

It'll look good, I'll tell you that now. But please do it properly.

Cheers,

Steve P.

At the last count, I noted a number of people in this forum

Seriously though, Steve and Darren are quite correct. It is quite possible to operate older 405 line TVs but it does need specialist equipment (standards converter, about £200) and the set will need knowledgeable attention to make it work safely. When this is done I would still hesitate to leave a vintage set running for long hours without adequate supervision. There are forum members in Scotland who could overhaul the set for you. The cost of doing this properly and safely may well be more than you paid for the set.

It is often possible though tricky to fit modern innards in an old set. The rule here is to keep all the old parts so that the set can be restored at a later date. I may well be criticised by others in the forum for even suggesting this.

You may find this interesting. Be warned that these "Retrovisor" sets are very rare and sell for high prices when they change hands which isn't often. http://www.radiocraft.co.uk/retrovisor.htm

Hello Gavin,

I play videos and DVDs through my Bush TV22. The TV22 has been completely overhauled and works well, in its original condition it did nothing.
Below is a pic of the back of my TV22 with an Aurora 405 line converter attached to its aerial socket which has a scart lead which can then be connected to a VCR or DVD player. The Aurora converter is available from the USA, or from Crowthorne Tubes but do have the TV22 overhauled before using it.

Hi Gavin,
Just in case you are unaware, the TV22 is a very desirable post war television and will easily command prices in three figures. However, this is not the case if the internal workings are irreversibly altered
