Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Well, this project is not homebrewed yet, but ongoing, but that's OK.
I have suffered a set back as one of the EHT winding burned. I will wind it again and then I will keep with the adjustments. Have to find the causes too.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
I think you've got things going somewhat better than the original Telequipment scopes.
Back in my schooldays, they equipped the physics lab with a few of them, so I've used them back when they were new. David

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Here a picture of the scope almost finished. There are some details to solve yet. It will be completely finished soon.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Finally I have assembled the "creature". What do you think? I can now declare this project officially (and happily):
COMPLETED I feel very glad with the result. Despite having a dedicated thread to thank in this forum, I want to thank here to everybody which have helped me in any way to finish this project. to all of you: Thanks! A special thank to my friend Andy (aka Dr Wobble) You are all invited to the christenning ceremony.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Thank you very much for your words. I still have to print the "manual" of the creature. Just some schematics and pictures of the layout. I will have it ready in a few days.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
That's fantastic -- and even more so, for saying it's built from scavenged parts.
I'm in awe.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
This is how I use the scope. Due to its big size I can not place it transversally so I have to use it oblique. I intend to make a rotary shelf in the future.

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
How about a 'scope trolley? The best bit is they slope the scope so you can't put stuff on top!

It sounds interesting. I will think about that.

What an inspiration. I have enjoyed every minute spent reading this. In an age where instant gratification is the norm, the guy is a hero.
Well done! And keep building what next? Trev |

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
The progress Miguel has made in seeing this project through to a successful conclusion is amazing, given that he doesn't have a ready source of components, and the circumstances in which he has to work are far from satisfactory – elsewhere he mentioned that he doesn’t have a workshop – just a small bench in his bedroom. It just goes to show what can be achieved with enthusiasm, commitment and a ‘can-do’ outlook on life. I don't think many people would say to themselves: "I don't have a workshop, I can't easily get hold of components, I know what I'll do - I'll design and build an oscilloscope – why not?"! But he did, and the results are clear for all to see. He started the project in March 2012 and saw it through to a successful conclusion in December 2013.
If that doesn't inspire us, I don't know what will!

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Hello all. Thank you for your kind words.
Have to say that a year ago (+/-) I moved the workbench from the bedroom to some kind of shed that my wife and I built. There she has the laundry and I have my bench. I have improved the oscilloscope during this year and I will open a new thread soon to talk about that. All the best

Re: Building an oscilloscope at home
Hi all
Just joined this forum and find it both informative and fascinating. Although this thread is somewhat dated now, I built the Practical Wireless “Purbeck” scope which was supported by the company Watford Electronics. It had its short comings but is still in use today. I would think most items are still available today bar the Mains transformer although I am sure that problem could be overcome. I do have a set of construction details which could be scanned.
