Please help identify Murphy portable radio
This set has B845 printed on the makers nameplate and in the battery box.
I've looked that model up on Paul's CD but it's not included. I'd like to restore this to use as a kitchen radio but need to find the service info. Maybe it goes under something else. Can anyone help please. Jim |

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
The B845 data appears in the R+TV servicing book, 1971-1972 models, pages 625-633.

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
Thanks both for the info. I passed my red books on when I bought Paul's CD.
Can anyone help me please with scans or photocopies of the info as detailed from the red book. Happy to pay whatever it takes. Jim |

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
It has several issues but the sound from what I've heard of it so far promises to be very good.
I used to work for the Rank org (Xerox) at the time they made this set so it's kind of appropriate that I'm planning to use it. Would Lord Rank be proud of me, I doubt it, he never was before. I wonder if he has the service sheets. Jim |

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
I've got the red books. Unless someone else has domestic instant scanning capability I'll have a go at it tomorrow at work. If it's not in Paul's collection I'll post it in this thread as a pdf.
It's a slightly odd set for the date with a classic two transformer germanium p-p output stage on the end of an otherwise all silicon circuit. AC142 isn't familiar, either.

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
I've just tried to get my scanner working as I have this service information, but it's not playing ball (as usual) and I'm not happy with the results. I actually took five ordinary photos of the pages, but if Chris can copy them tomorrow then it's probably not worth me attaching them to this post.

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
I've managed to scan the Murphy B845 data and make a PDF, a lot of effort to get the file size down!

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
You’re a grand fellow, Mick, that’s the red book info. nice and clear!
I’m going to have to take some time out to get my (very old) scanner sorted. I tend to just use a digital camera to photo small bits of info. as it’s just so much quicker and easier for me to do it that way. |

Re: Please help identify Murphy portable radio
Thanks chaps for your offers of help. Much appreciated. I always have trouble getting my scanner to behave itself. It's fine as a printer but lacks control as a scanner. My Digital camera usually makes a fine job of it.
Thanks Mick for persevering. I'm grateful for the result and after a quick look at the information it seems to be all I'll need. Thanks again. Jim |
