A decent photo would help. You can't see much detail in the video.

I don't know about the radiogram itself, but I think the record deck is a Philips AG1114, produced about 1957-59. It has had a non-original combined cartridge/headshell fitted at some time.

I think the original cartridge was AG3025.

The one with the microgroove and 78 stylus was the replacement for the 3025.

It looks very much like the F5G86A (1958-59). There should be a identification plate on the back, and another on the radio chassis.

The original pickup would have been the AG3016. This will have failed many years ago, and been replaced by a later version.

The attached PDF gives a few details.

Hope this helps,

Roy

Steve,
When you say it is reluctant to work sometimes, do you mean the cartridge, i.e no sound.? If this is the case, you will need a new cartridge. (Not cheap!) Just pull off the complete cartridge (may have to wiggle it gently) and there should be a number on a small square sticker on the underside. It should begin with AG....... (probably). Unfortunately, they are now more or less obsolete, but there was a thread on here not long ago, in which one of the members (Ben) pointed us to a Dutch site that was selling them. I have looked for the thread, but it escapes me! They were, however, very expensive, I think about £40.00.

Sounds like the cartridge has gone, unfortunately. But make sure before buying another. I have just found the site that Ben recommended.

There are two with the female fitting like yours, 49 euros!

Just a thought... Is the stylus seated correctly? Just behind the actual stylus point, the shank of the stylus arm should be held in a tiny clear plastic clip, which sticks out of the actual cartridge. This is what transfers the signal from the stylus to the cartridge, and if the stylus is not located properly in it, you will get intermittent sound. Worth looking!

I dont think so. It looks like it is lopsided, the stylus that is.

It shouldn't be! Gently lift the metal bar that the stylus is mounted on, move it so that the bar is directly over the plastic clip, and press the stylus bar into the clip. Now see if the volume improves. If it does, this was the problem,if not, then there's a very good chance that the cartridge has gone.

Therein lies a lesson; as is often said, it's always worth checking for quick and simple things like dirty/dodgy controls before doing anything else. Much time and expense can frequently by saved in this way.

I'm sure Steve thanks those who gave their time to try and assist with this repair.
