Default Audiofriends - has anyone dealt with them?

Has anyone used them for replacement speaker foam surrounds?

They appear to have an exact fit for the Peerless K040MRF, even with the reversed roll and I'm thinking about getting some. Based in Holland.

Yes David about a month ago. I bought two surrounds for JBL control 1's. No worries no prob's. As they're in Holland it can take a while for the postal system to spit your purchase out the other end.

The used to called something else a few years ago, I bought some surrounds off them then. they were extremely helpfull.

Not sure if it help's but I need some surround's for Peerless KO40's too, happy to split the postage costs.

Andy.

Good to know.

I'll order some this week once Easter is out the way. Will a couple do you?

The surrounds arrived today (shipped last Friday)

They look good. I'm very impressed with the service.

I've just cleaned off the old surrounds and I'll put the new ones in tomorrow (I left them at work!) These are definitely made for the job, the material is as I remember the drivers were back when they were new. The surround has the correct reversed roll so i won't have to trim things to clear a convex roll as some people have said they've done.

Andy, If you send your address, I'll get your pair on to you.

Job done!

My big transmission line speakers are back in action and sounding superb. I have a big smile on my face... ear-to-ear.

The glue audiofriends sells is white and looks like PVA 'resin-W' but it isn't, it's rubbery once it starts to set. It seems a close match to the rubbery glue I removed from the edges of the cones and baskets. There is no copydex style ammonia smell. I suspect it's a polyurethane.

The foam surrounds look and feel just like the originals did when they were new, and the fit is exact.

I've not had the system on for some time and been listening to music in the car or from the iMac internal speakers. It's nice to see what I've been missing.

The KO40 driver has a protruding voice coil former and the dust cap fits inside. Removing it for shimming would be more invasive than I like. So I used a tiny jeweller's screwdriver to drill four little holes in the periphery of the dust cap at 90 degree intervals, close up against the inside of the former. I then found some fine wire copper wire to feed in to take up the gap and hold the former in alignment. It turned out to be individual strands from some flexible wire.

The Audiofriends glue grips quite quickly so things didn't need holding, but with enough time to position things. Their brushes are just the right width, too.

With everything secure, I pulled the wires out and then used a blob of glue to seal the holes. They're invisible now.

Isn't it nice when everything just goes right?

Thanks, Michael, they are indeed very good.

David

So here's one of the re-foamed midrange drivers caught in its natural habitat.
I'm very pleased with the result.
