Default TEAC 8-08 Tascam 8 track reel to reel no record

Hi all, a friend has dropped this machine off tonight for repair. Apparently the machine plays back fine and the transport is ok but there is no record on any of the eight channels, although the VU meters show record signal. I have not done a functional check yet but was wondering if anyone has a circuit for this machine, or know where to find one. Thanks in advance.
Alan.

Manual here - https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_li...eac/80-8.shtml The 80-8 has 8 amplifier cards that are accessed via the bottom panel. Each has three relays for switching the signals. The relays used were made by NEC and are known to go OC. I have some amplifier cards out of the Tascam 38 that may have the same relays on if you get stuck for spares. Oh, there's a Rifa cap on the on/off switch that will wanting changing if it hasn't gone already.

You can still get some of the logic IC's from the USA, though some are very hard to find.

There's a couple of good Tascam/Teac forums online, one on a reel to reel/recording forum. just had a look in my bookmarks but can't find them.

Hope that helps, Andy.

It may also be worth looking up Sam Palermo from Skywave Services in the US as he tends to be a good source of information on old Teac/Tascam gear.

I understand it's now a known problem with the 80-8 that several capacitors in the master bias oscillator are bad by now, and require replacement, so it would be wise to check those as well.

Yes, it would seem that if recording all eight channels has failed at the same time, the culprit is likely to be some common component, such as the bias oscillator.
