Default New Museum in Suffolk

On 30/11/2014 a friend of mine will be fulfilling a long ambition and is opening a Radio & Television Museum.
It is located in the Suffolk village of Monks Eleigh IP7 7AU. It will be open to the public between 10am-4pm.
All will be welcome. If you any one can come along please mention this Forum.

That's not too far from me in South Norfolk, do you have any more details, like the building where the museum will be located? Are the local media likely to carry any info? A Google only shows this thread.

Thanks

Roger

It will be later next year before I could visit but I will be putting in the list of things to see. Any more info as Roger requested would be good.

Laverham is just up the road from Monks Eleigh, Frank, well worth a visit for its medieval buildings. Don't forget the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton too, some good radio content there.

May end up taking the wife if she can be lured with a promise of a lunch out at one of the lovely Suffolk pubs.

Looks like a nice place for a visit, however I notice that the 'Ekco A22, manufactured in Southend in the 1930s, is still picking up FM and AM radio stations'. Must be a different model than the ones I've seen before (or not quite what it seems ?). Cheers, Alan.

Just what I was going to say, mine does but that is with the help of probably 10,000 transistors (maybe a lot more, a DAB tuner and a pantry transmitter).

Bit of a whoopsie, FM it said I did DAB, well I suppose FM stations are on DAB.

Default Paul Goodchild - 800 Radios

Anyone know Paul Goodchild? A very good article about him appeared in the Daily Express a few weeks ago raising money for prostate cancer charities by attracting visitors to his museum in Suffolk.

Paul is indeed the person whose brainchild this Museum is. Paul has been collecting all sorts of Radio, TV Record players, Tape Recorders for years in the hope of starting a museum. About 2 years ago Paul was given the tenancy of the old chapel. He has spent a lot of time and money bringing it back to life ,it had been empty for about 20 years.
We have managed to repair some of the exhibits, but there are so many it is going to take some time to work through them all.
The Museum is open on the first Sunday of every month. If any member of the forum would like to visit outside these hours please PM me and either I or another of the Trustees will try to be available .

A real achievement.

My Dad and I took a trip to Monks Eleigh this weekend. We took the back roads, rather than an A120/A131 dash and wished we had more time (and sunshine) to get out and explore the villages such as Laverham, Cavendish and Clare.

Paul was very welcoming, chatting and demonstrating working exhibits to visitors. He and his colleagues have done a great job of bringing the old Chapel back into use and the collection covers a wide range of sets from the 30's onwards. Radios are the main interest, but there are quite a few reel to reel recorders, record players, and gramophones. There are a some narrow-gauge film projectors, a few early home VCRs and the odd mechanical musical instument. The collection is growing as people get to hear about the museum and offer donations.

Tea, coffee and home-made cakes were available and live Hammond music added to the atmosphere.

The local pub is within easy walking distance and hot food is also available at the tea rooms at the Eastern end of the village.

Paul is raising funds for two very worthy charities so if you are able to get along, I would thoroughly recommend it.
