BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett - 7th Dec 2014

Hi All,

I have now completed the Auction lotting for the BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett meeting and Auction on the 7th December 2014.

There is a total of 300 lots of good quality and interesting Radio and TV items.

The star item is the 1937 Marconi 703 "Mastergram" combined TV/Radio/Gram in totally untouched original condition (excluding the usual 1940's/50's capacitor changes).
This has been dry stored and covered over for the last 40 years.

I have sent the Auction Catalogue and pictures to Paul for the BVWS website.

He will make them available when convenient as he is extremely busy with other work.

I currently only have three stalls left, so if you intend to book a table, then don't leave it too long as space will be an issue in the hall.

The usual warm Mince Pies will be served at the front door!

Hi All,

The RWB event is now fully booked up for tables. There are currently 27 Stalls.

Anyone now wanting to set up a stall will have to provide their own table and be sited in the Annex area.

There are a few more Auction items that will be added in on the day. Supplementary pictures may appear on the BVWS website shortly but will not be in the Catalogue until the day of the event.

The weather is looking good for the 7th so it will be a nice morning.

There will be plenty of the usual cooked food and drinks throughout the day to keep everyone going.

Sadly again a little too far for me to get to.Though there are several items i fancy.

I am thinking of attending but I was involved in a very serious high speed collision on the M6 Wednesday night ending up embedded in the rear of a stationary lorry! Feeling very sore but trying to get my driving confidence back to make the trip down.

Plenty of very interesting things in the auction and if I do attend hopefully there will be a few pre-war Murphy radio sets or a Murphy B41 to play with !! or some hugue valve filled piece of test equipment.

Just got back from my first RWB (and first BVWS event, for that matter).

Wow! What can I say? It's like my childhood, jumble-sale fantasies come true!

Without exception, everyone was very friendly indeed, and I met a good few forum members, many for the first time, including our own Paul Stenning, Mike Barker, Jeremy/Pamphonica, Christopher Capener, Howard, Ron Bryan, Dazzlevision, Alan Stepney, Greenstar and Cobaltblue.

Prices, in the main, were excellent compared with what I'm used to paying (eBay, charity shops) etc. I saw plenty of mint 50s sets for £5, interesting and tidy 30s sets for £10 and up, tatty scrappers for £1, a Marconiphone pre-war radiogram in excellent condition for £5, and so on.

My biggest regret was not being able to stay for the auction, but that was probably just as well as I'm not known for my self-control where radios are concerned.

I have to say that I felt sorry for some stallholders who seemed to have sold virtually nothing by the time I left, even though their goods were keenly priced IMHO. One husband and wife time were selling gear that belonged to her late father, and seemed to be literally giving most of it away after an hour or two. At least it went to good homes though.

I didn't come away with anything too out of the ordinary, but did nab a couple of nice Bakelite Bush sets with VHF (VHF70, VHF80?), a Fenman II in fairly good nick, an uglyish-but-nice-sounding Ekco with 2 speakers (you know the one!) and a few other odds and ends, so I'm more than happy. And traffic was excellent both ways.

I've returned from my first RWB, I have to say it was excellent, there was plenty of stuff look at / buy. I brought some Mullard data books, a Limrose Electronics vintage digital logic tutor board and a 32 & 32uF cap from the BVWS stall.

I sold my PSU kit on the BVWS Bring and Buy stall, I'm glad went to somebody.

It was bought by a UK collector and will be remaining in the UK, which is excellent news. Mike will be delivering it this week.

Three French, two Japanese and a Canadian set that I fancied sold for more than I could justify- in the case of the Canadian one- a rather pretty Addison L2F in maroon and cream for about £300 more than I could manage

There must be something special about that "look".

The one at RWB was a "negative" of the RM one.

Nevertheless a good day- the B&B actually covered my auction spend though I got sandbagged by a box of books that didn't sell and got loaded into the next lot (assorted trannies for a fiver) which I was the only bidder on. Somehow I also ended up with £5 worth of 1940s radiogram too- it'll take up as much room as the Murphy A24C basket case I sold

Does anyone need a free Plessey SL600 book? There was one in the unloved box....

Thanks to everyone for the hard work- one memorable bit was 9 (yes nine ) lots of "Large tray of assorted valves" one after another- hard to make each one sound interesting

Thank you everyone for a great and really busy event. I don't think I've seen the hall busier.

The auction was hard work for those of us on stage, along with with 320 lots. Thankfully Mike and some of the team were able to get into the hall last night to set up which saved a lot of time and work this morning.

I didn't buy anything this time (though there were several tempting items), and sold a couple of items in the bring-and-buy.

Overall an excellent day.

That is indeed good news that the pre war television is staying in the country of its origin. My comments on fetching more were only made going by what Bonhams have sold pre war for in the past.
