Re: Marconi 995A Signal Generator. Value?
Not a great deal, I'm afraid.
It's quite good for broadcast VHF/FM radio work, it isn't really stable enough for 2-metre amateur band work, and the low frequency coverage doesn't go down low enough to cover medium waves or the popular broadcast radio IFs. I don't know what the Canadian market is like, but over the years I've seen a couple of them on bring and buy stalls at radio rallies in the UK, but they didn't sell. It's a matter of whether you can find someone who wants it. Sorry, David

I acquired two, I have one that I use in the workshop, the other I sold tested and working about a year ago and only got about £25 for it.

I bought one about 20 years ago for £45. Very good indeed considering its age, and very stable after warming up for half an hour. LF coverage doesn't reach below 1.5 MHz. I flogged it on after a few years.

Re: Marconi 995A Signal Generator. Value?
I'll echo Andrew's comment regarding the 995A's stability after a warm-up. Like their bigger sibling - the TF801B(CT394B) they benefit from an hour's warm-up in my experience.
I've a 995A/5 as my main bench Sig Gen, & a spare 995A/2. A very versatile AM/FM MF to VHF S/G. It also has a very stable & removable PSU. I've also used it as a VFO & it gave very stable o/p's on frequencies in the 80m band - within a Hz or so. According to a couple of very accurate freq counters I use. Right enough, compared to a modern wee jappo/chinko plastic sig gen - its huge. But then - we're all supposed to share an interest in vintage radio & electronics. So why not cherish a lovely reliable vintage sig gen. Regards, David |
