Dual CS 530 cartridge/stylus Question
Hi Guys,
I picked up a pretty nice 1971 Dual CS 530 at the thrift store on Friday. Paid $10 for it. Here are the problems: It needs a new belt and (thanks to me) needs a new stylus, the needle got knocked off when I was cleaning it. She was filthy but cleaned up very nicely. . What my question is is what type/brand of stylus do I need? The cartridge is a Epoch II, I think its made by Stanton. I dont want to drop a ton of cash, I am Ballin' on a budget. Would it be easier/cheaper to get a new cartridge? I can get a Ortofon Omega Cartridge for $30 here in the states. Below are some photos. This is my first Dual, all advice is welcome. Thoughts? Thanks, -Erich944 |

That looks like an ortofon. They were often fitted with those here in england.

Re: Dual CS 530 cartridge/stylus Question
Your cartridge is a Stanton Epoch II. A new stylus at $65 isn't cheap ....
http://www.lptunes.com/Stylus-for-St...tnsepochii.htm If you can get a complete Ortofon Omega cartridge cheaper which looks similar and should have the same mounting (do check with the dealer), then go for one of those. I'm not familar with either cartridge but I guess that the cheap basic Ortofon should sound OK. The Dual turntable I owned in the late 1970s had an Ortofon cartridge and it worked very well.
