Default SV4G valve? (Actually a 5V4G).

Hello chaps a question for you if I may, a sv4g valve I have tried various searches but have come up blank. Any info. please and a possible equivalents please. Have just dug a radio out of the pile and this valve is missing and 2 KT61's replaced with ?? valves with no markings.
Just want to pop a missing valve in and see what happens and see if it is a viable proposition to go further.
Thanks all.
Cheers.
Geoff.

Found nothing either. Even frank.pocnet drew a blank.
What is it? Base, heater volts, function? Which set? Age? There will be an equivalent - somewhere.

Crossed with Lawrence.

Is it not a 5V4G rectifier valve?

Good one Alf, lateral thinking, I bet it is!

If so, a couple of 1N4007s and a ballast resistor would get it up and running. 5V4Gs are getting pricey.

Geoff.

I have a used 5V4G to sell with proceeds going to charity (RSPCA Ipswich Branch). Make me an offer if you're interested. Postage would be £2.90. I'd test it before despatch.

GZ34 (should be available from any musical instrument shop) probably will substitute OK.

Sorry about that chaps, it is a 5 not an S peering at a dirty discoloured label.
Have the valve data cd but it has stopped working.
Mc Michael 50C. label overstamped.

Cheers.

If its a table radio it could be a 501AC.

You'd have to max-out your credit card to buy the GZ34, really pricey!
Also, the US type 5Y3GT would work OK. Should be more common.

Watford have GZ34 for £11.

https://watfordvalves.com/products.asp?search=GZ34

Personally I'd grab a couple of cheap high-voltage silicon diodes, a couple of 100-Ohm 5W wirewound resistors for surge-limiting, and stuff the lot into an octal base-shell scavenged from a dead valve. Job done for a quid.

5V4G is indirectly heated, so take care about instant on HT volts and the main smoother ratings.....

I did suggest a couple of 1N4007 and resistors, 100 Ohm @ 7 or10 Watt would be OK, ( 5 Watt resistors may struggle and get very hot due to ripple current ) but bear in mind that this will give you instant very high HT voltage at switch on until the other valves warm up and start drawing current.

Therefore this modification could pose you problems with capacitors if they are a mite mean on voltage ratings.

Sorry, info crossed.

The Russian 5C3S valve is equivalent to the 5U4G, and readily available at sensible prices. I bought some a while ago although haven't used them yet, but they do look to be well-made.

Hello thanks for all the help and information, will have a space cleared next week so will see what happens!!
Looks interesting, I wonder why the valve/s have been got at.
Cheers.
