Default BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 6th December

Hi All,

Less than two weeks to go to the Royal Wootton Bassett radio meeting and Auction.

I am currently working on the auction lots and will hopefully get the catalogue and photographs to Paul before the end of the weekend.
They will then appear on the BVWS website.

This auction is very heavy on valves. We seem to have had a huge amount of them coming in recently.

Mike...

Hi All,

I have now sent the Catalogue and pictures to Paul who will make them available when his time permits.

There are a number of detailed pictures of the BAIRD 1938 model T18C which is a very rare pre-war TV.
I know all pre-war TV's are rare, but this one is only the third one known to still exist and has been dry stored for the last 40 years, so not seen on the market before.

Enjoy!

More lots will be added as this next week goes by.
An up to date catalogue will be available on the day.

Mike...

I'm hoping to go as well. Anyone know what you need to do in order to bid in the auction?. Do you have to register, put a deposit down etc. and is it cash only?

Hi Radiocruncher.

You have to be a BVWS member to bid in the auction.

Your bidding number is your membership number.

These are BVWS only meets, however to encourage new members you are usually given guest entry a couple of times to the actual event.

I am sure Mike or Paul can give you more information

Cheers

Mike yes I know that and am a member of the BVWS. I've not been to any events yet as I only joined a couple of months ago hence the questions.

In that case its easy just get a bidding card

No deposit required, Cash and cheques accepted but I don't think cards as yet.

Cheers

All BVWS members can participate in any of the BVWS auctions.
As Mike says, You can pick up a bidding card at the computer table by the stage at the front of the hall just by asking the person behind the desk.
It will be obvious when you are there.

The bidding number is also your BVWS membership number and is unique to you at every event.

The BVWS can accept, cash, cheques and card payments at all events for auction items or other purchases from the BVWS table such as books and capacitors etc.

As a first time visitor you will be most welcome.

Non BVWS members who would like to come along are also made welcome and after being seen at a couple of events will normally be asked to join up for future events.
You cannot participate in the auction if you are not a paid up BVWS member.

I am on the front door to greet everybody and to make sure you get a Mince Pie!
Do say hello when you come through.

Mike...

Thanks for the info to both Mikes. I will definitely be travelling up and will say hi if I bump into you. Looking forward to it and glad you take cards as saves on cash point trips.

Well done to the whole team. The bacon butty I bought from the lovely kitchen staff half way through the auction was especially welcome!
My small stall enabled me to clear out a lot of items so I even have some shelf-space clear in the workshop (but for how long...?).
And for those who have not yet dipped a toe into the selling side of these events, the tables (at just £15), are great value for a clear-out.
And the usual pro job Mike, you rattled through the auction items and I managed not to bring home too much!
Excellent all round. Hope to see many familiar faces at the Special Auction at RWB On February 7th.
all the best
Jeremy

What happened to the 1938 Baird folks? Was it actually in the auction?

It was in the auction but there were no bids at the starting price so it was withdrawn. Anyone interested in purchasing it should contact Mike.

Another good day, won the Christmas cake, so my family is happy, bought a small Avo sig generator, a small radio and a BBC Engineering training manual. Great meeting up with everyone. Thanks to Mike and his team, including those in the kitchen for making it yesterday such a good day.

Out of interest, was there a lot of interest in the valves and did they go for much per tray?

Andy.
