Re: Defiant MSH938 cabinet repair.
Good evening Gentlemen,
Many thanks for those kind words of encouragement. I've made a start on the refinishing task today. There is a particularly beautiful symmetrical wood grain effect on the front of the cabinet. This was not apparent under the original dark brown lacquer. The wood dye and French polish has emphasised the effect. Will post a picture tomorrow. DFWB. |

A picture of the exquisite veneer pattern on the cabinet front. It doesn't get better than this.

Hi Nick,
that's the job done. It's big and shiny. This is an impressive looking receiver. DFWB. |

Looking very lovely indeed, David. With the dial glass missing, it almost looks as if it should have a small CRT filling the aperture.
Does it perform as well as it looks? Nick. |

Re: Defiant MSH938 cabinet repair.
Hi Nick,
the cabinet belongs to another Forum member. However, I have a similar set which was bought from a radio swapmeet in 2002. Believe it not, I have never switched it on. It's about time I did. As soon as that is done I will report my findings on this forum. I'd imagine that the set will be a good performer, it has an RF stage and has the added refinement of AFC which is desirable on a set with motorised tuning. You are right, that cabinet would have made a stylish television set. DFWB. |

+1 for very lovely indeed! Do I not recall you planning to convert a similar looking asymmetric radio into a symmetrical television some years ago? Peter |

Re: Defiant MSH938 cabinet repair.
Hi Peter,
That's right, in fact the radio cabinet which could donate it's curved sides is in the shop somewhere. It's time I started churning out more projects, the strange thing is I used to do more projects and restorations when the shop was busy. At the moment it is too cold in the place to do anything.
