Re: GEC Series 1 Fineline sets
Hi Tony
I think Adrian was referring to the model 2114 'Junior Fineline' portable, which was a solid state set. It had nothing in common with its big brothers other than the Fineline name. Steve |

Gotya, thanks. Things don't gel the same anymore. Remember them both.

Re: GEC Series 1 Fineline sets
Comprehensive service information for the GEC Series One receivers can be found in the 1971/72 Radio and Television servicing book, pages 309 to 322.
The main chassis has a surprisingly low transistor count, having only five. The tuner uses two silicon transistors, BF180 and BF181. Attached to the tuner unit is the IF bandpass filter assembly. The vision response curve characteristic is determined before the IF signal reaches the main PCB. The timebases are similar to the earlier dual standard receivers with the 405 switching removed. All in all a very well designed receiver. Better than the 1500? Well I think it is. DFWB. |

Re: GEC Series 1 Fineline sets
Not as easy to service as the 1500, but then again it didn't need as much servicing!
To confirm, in common with many manufacturers, GEC didn't have a large-screen solid state monochrome TV - the portable Junior Fineline was the limit of their solid states. I suppose designing one wasn't worth it with mono coming to an end and all the valves and associated parts to use up. I don't remember any complaints about the warm-up time for similar sets. Was there a Series Three with varicap tuning but the same chassis as the One and Two? |
