Default Premier TRF kit radio

Just two quick questions, could anyone advise the correct value for the reaction control, and the probable cause of serious mains modulation?

I've just acquired a Premier which had been built, and possibly modified, by someone whose enthusiasm exceeded their ability, and the pot, which is damaged beyond repair, looks like it came from a 50's transistor set . It makes no difference to the reception, which is very weak (just about picks up TalkSport).

Any help gratefully received,

Rick.

For the modulation hum, check the filter capacitor across the mains supply, you may also need to put a small capacitor across the mains rectifier if there is not one already in the circuit.

With DC conversion receivers I sometimes had to put a toroid on the mains lead near the radio.
