Default MURPHY DAY, Mill Green Museum AL9 5PD

Murphy Day!

Mill Green Museum, AL9 5PD between Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City.

A pleasant day out at a working water mill with the added attraction of a Host of Murphy Radio products on display and a small bunch of collectors to chat to.

This year's theme is Murphy Export Receivers.

Museum does not open until 2pm and closes at 5pm.
Found out the hard way!

Very pleasant afternoon spent at the Mill chatting with like-minded loonies. Some interesting Murphy products on display (a French SW station playing jazz early on), and GOOD WEATHER (unlike last year when rain got into some of the TVs!). Many thanks to Mike & Jim and Dave Grant and Mike Izycky for showing their export Murphys.

The cakes from the teashop are very good by the way - worth a visit on their own!

I missed it, I suppose I needed a rest after a marathon Murphy madness "acquisition" bout, including three export models, the SA104 the SA104R and I think an SA128.

Sure to be there next year.

I found a nice bench to relax on for a couple of hours - bit hard though. Was then treated to the mill working before checking out the Murphy's. I loved the little export U198 with its short wave scale. The most amazing was THAT radiogram! Huge and evidently very heavy but what a find - surely it must be quite rare. One thing I found with Murphy's is that they always seemed to pull in stations with much more ease than most other makes, especially on short wave. Well designed pieces of kit. Must visit the cake shop next time!

Just a few pictures from the display.

'THAT' radiogram is seriously heavy. Two people really struggle to get it off the ground.
It is from South Africa, and there was no shortage of solid wood when it was built...
Unfortunately I was unable to take a lot of the other export set I have because they are just not accessable.

We had quite a few visitors and it was certainly a good day.
