Identity of amp unit.
Hi All,
Does anyone here recognise this amp unit? I am told it came from a reel to reel tape player. Valve line up EF86(x2), EL84(x2), EZ80 and EM84. Cheers, John Joe. |

Re: Identity of amp unit.
I don't immediately recognise it from any British tape-recorder though the knobs were used by several, mainly budget decks. I would suggest it is one of the High Street radio shop tape-recorder amp offerings such a from Stern-Clyne, Lasky.... of the early/mid-1950s.

Re: Identity of amp unit.
It's the two EL84s that puzzle me. Mostly a single EL84 would be used switched between audio output and erase/bias oscillator duties. Maybe this points to its use with a 3-head deck.
Apart from that, the pairs of jacks each side with controls in between looks like the Stern's implementation of the classic Mullard (C?) circuit. Graham

Re: Identity of amp unit.
Thanks for the replies, when I first seen it I thought it might be push pull output, but I can now see the second EL84 has nothing to do with the sound output. Good audio quality, I'm going to make a small box for it and use it as a general purpose amplifier.
Cheers, John Joe. |

Re: Identity of amp unit.
This is bound to have a very high input sensitivity and would sound really good on low output Mono cartridges.
