I'm a big fan of the Bush AC3, the first ever Bush radio. Unfortunately i'm very unlikely to ever own one as they are very rare but I just love the sort of spooky gothic look like something from a haunted house!

Im pleased i started this thread, as beauty is a strange and wonderful thing. Some people see it in plain functional, some in classic design shapes etc. Just what i hoped would come out of it. Some stunning , some rare, some with memories and some unique

Some one has to do it, I'm voting for the Bush DAC90a.

Also I love the look of my Ultra Twin R825.

It has always puzzled me, I wonder, why was the Ultra Twin called that, what were there 2 of?
Apart from 2 knobs, and on some models 2 sliding doors.
There are about 9 different models in the radio museum all called Twin something.

Nice example Gary

I always assumed the Twin was because it was mains and battery but I could be wrong.

Very plausible, or maybe just that it has LW and MW - twin band.

Ultra did several sets in a similar design between 49 and 57, looks like they're all called 'twin' except the first one, U626 which is AC/DC only, all the others are mains/batt .... so for Ultra maybe that is the reason.

This is my rather sad example, not currently in the running for best looking vintage radio

I'm pretty sure you're right. Same applies to the rather less well known Double Decca, though that one had the added appeal of the pun.

Dac90a would also get my vote! Elegant, appealing, no nonsense though. Form follows function. Full marks. (Though better performance could still have been wheedled out of those 5 valves!)

My understanding is that it is because it can operate on mains or battery.

The Ultra was also called the "Coronation twin" and was a lovely set.

Arthur Askey headed up the advertising campaign with the slogan '2 sets for the price of one'

For me it will always be the Regentone Multi99 table radiogram, A, because it was released the same month as I was born and B, we had one from when I was a baby until it died when I was 10. Now I have 5 of them. I can remember kneeling in front of ours and driving my mum mad by asking her where all the places named on the tuning scale were. She eventually told me to get out the atlas and look them up.

Has anyone posted up a thread on the worst looking radio? That might also be interesting!

We've been there, but a long time ago.

http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=10510

A lot of broken links there, unfortunately (or is it?). As will be clear, I didn't know the Proton 300 then.

It is a shame half the links are now broken on that ugly thread, or at least they were for me. Did anyone else have problems with them.

If I may be so bold to offer my nomination for Ugly how about this KB FP151.

I'm sure many links will be broken for all of us - 11 years, almost, is a long time for the internet.

I think the FP151 looks rather sweet, especially in baby blue...

One of the reasons why we prefer images to be embedded here, rather than links.
