Re: Server Busy
The server was busy sending out email newsletters to existing customers of one of the eCommerce websites for the last 40 minutes or so, which would account for that.

Re: Server Busy
Here in RSA we had the problem as well. I know we load portions of Pauls server. We have some 14,000 members. I'll happily donate a quid towards better speed, and if others do then a good thing will have been done. This site should be declared a National treasure and given Lottery money. it trains hundreds of people and is very fair in that we then pass on what we know, old grandPa's tend to talk about what they know.

Re: Server Busy
I am aware that the website and indeed the whole server was down between 6:25am and 6:55am this morning. The hosting company had to reboot the server because it became unresponsive. They will try to establish the reason from server logs etc.

Re: Server Busy
At appears that there may be ongoing problems with the server admin system as that was the cause of the earlier problem and I understand it crashed again at about 8:30. The hosting company are on the case.
If you are typing a long response to a thread I suggest that you select it all and press Ctrl-C (or right-click and copy) to copy to the clip board before posting. Then you won't lose it all if it goes down again. |

Re: Server Busy
Hi, I've been unable to view the forum for the last 15 minutes or so, I got a message from V bulletin saying there is a database error. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Server Busy
I've had this too, so it's obviously not us.
The correct phrase on the Television Transmitter Information programme that comes on after Play School on BBC2 is 'Liable To Interruptions'. Cheers, Steve P.

Re: Server Busy
I've been getting occasional blank screens when navigating to the forum . Haven't waited long enough to see if 404 or other error.

Re: Server Busy
The database error was due to database corruption after the 4th server crash of the day. That's fixed, but the cause of the crashing is still being investigated. The hosting company have tracked it down to something related to the server management software (something fairly specific I think but I didn't ask for details) and are referring it up to the software publishers.
At this stage it is not fixed so could (and probably will) happen again. Random slow responses are probably due to the additional logging and monitoring the hosting company have temporarily installed. It grabs and saves a snapshot of the status of all server services every 15 seconds, so consumes significant resources itself. That's what's enabled them to narrow the problem as far as they have though. |

Re: Server Busy
When I tried to access this morning before 7am my browser failed with 'looking up hostname", implying there was a DNS issue. I wondered if the domain had expired, but it worked normally a few minutes later, and have not seen any 'database' errors.

Re: Server Busy
The hosting company are experiencing a large DDOS attack on another client's server which is affecting their network and upstream connections. They are on the case but there could be problems for a little while longer.
