Very sorry to hear that. I never met him but had we some very interesting chats on two meters. He was the only person that's been able to explain why valve amps sound better than transistors.

I gree with Trevor, nearly all the 'Greats' of the world of electronics which most of us here understand, have gone now.

Hi,

I am Gordons grand-daughter I searched his name on a whim, and was surprised and very touched to see this group about him. It has been lovely to see all your kind words and I know he would be honored by them.

Very sad. Gordon was indeed one of the greats, and his writings will certainly never be forgotten.

RIP, Gordon.

May I add my sincere condolences Victoria, Mr King left a lasting impression on me as a young electronics student and Hi-Fi fanatic and his work is amongst the most respected in the field. I only wish I could have met him.

Your acknowledgement to the forum is greatly appreciated.

Hi All, I am posting this reply on my daughters account. I am GJKs son and was with him at the point that in his words he started his 'long sleep.' He passed peacefully and was at peace with the world having had a wonderful career doing what he loved. I think he even forgave me for blowing up some of his early equipment when I was about 5 years old!! Thank you all for your kind words. He would be most touched. Mike King

Mike, Victoria,

I only knew him through his articles, which were always incisive, well-written and interesting.

He was a much respected man.

Pete.

Taken from: http://www.southgatearc.org/news/jul...fv_funeral.htm

The funeral of Gordon King G4VFV will take place on Wednesady August 4th at St. Mary's Church in Brixham.
The funeral takes place at 2pm. The cremation (some miles away) will be private due to chapel refurbishments at the Torbay Crematorium.

Gordon's family have told me today that they will be delighted to welcome any of Gordon's Amateur Radio friends. During the service – planned to be a celebration of Gordon's 88 years – tributes will be spoken by his children Mike and Sue, the grandchildren. Rob Mannion G3XFD will also speak in tribute to Gordon. The service will be about an hour in length.

Very sorry to learn of that very sad news. When colour television started in 1967 I purchased two of his books that were both of great help. I have quite a few more that I continued to purchase through the 70's. R.I.P. G.J. King, F.J. Camm and Les Lawry-Johns. We guys in the early days of colour television [and black and white] owe them a lot! J.

Absolutely! Messrs King and Camm for their inestimable skill at passing on their knowledge to others and inspiring many of us to make a career in radio and TV and to LLJ for his wit and down-to-earth approach to servicing breaking many of the rules along the way. I could also add FG Rayer (G3OGR) to the list.

There is no-one writing these sorts of books now and their work should be preserved for future generations.

Thank you for all your kind and lovely words about my grandfather - he was as much an inspiration to us as he was to you all. So pleased he was viewed so highly by other people, he loved his work and spoke about it often. Sharon

I can't say any more than HCS, SB and others have already said. All those mentioned are truly great men who will be sadly missed but their legacy will be always be with us through their writing.

I learned almost all I know about colour TV and the PAL system through reading Gordon Kings articles in Television.

Please accept my condolences. I'm sure he will never be forgotten on this excellent forum.

I'm sure that most of us have at least one book on our shelves by which to remember GJK. One of the first technical books I ever bought on the inner workings of TVs was his Beginner's Guide to Colour Television - and about the only one of them that I understood at the time. And yes, it still is on my shelf.
