Hi Trevor,

Sorry to hear this, if you want a list of relevant agencies to contact, feel free to drop me a PM. Amongst which is the agency that found me my current job a few months back.

If I can help you at all, just ask.

Don't be afraid to take a bit of time out if you feel you need a break, you will do much better with job hunting if you feel optomistic and positive, it makes it easier too.

Cheers,

Colin

Hi Trevor,

If it's any encouragement I lost my job at the start of the recession, plus the other jobs I was going for fell through due to the downturn.

However, when I was ringing round recently one of the agencies (who had tried to get me that other job) still happened to have my details on file and, knowing where I had worked before, got me a job at a nearby company and I'm now on my third week there. Although physically exhausted due to not being used to it I'm enjoying the work and the prospects are promising.

This is despite the job section in the local paper being very thin on the ground.

I hope you find this encouraging

Best wishes,

Brian

Hi Guys.
Again thanks to everyone that has replied since I posted yesterday. I have been carefully reading all the posts and will heed the good advice given.
I really haven't had a good week, I have been really struggling with the work, so today I asked if I could go this Friday and they pay me one week lieu of notice, they said ok thank god!
For my sins though I was asked to go to Alto in Penrith tomorrow and pick up a full van & trailer load of sweepers & vacuum cleaners.
At least next week I can get things sorted out, hopefully.

Let me echo everyone's sympathy. I'm self-employed so effectively get made redundant every few months and know how hard it can be to get back going again.

Don't just stick with one agency - they're none of them interested in their clients just what they can take as a percentage! Don't forget to call round all the clients of your current company and see what work you can get it often pays dividends as no doubt they'll be in the lurch too...

Hope you get sorted soon!

Indeed one of the things I will do is speak to some of the customers I went around.
I now have another problem to deal with, Anne is totally laid up with back problems, after a visit to the doctor there is no improvement, she can hardly walk and is unable to dress herself, and anyone that knows her will tell you she never complains, I am about to take her (assuming I can get her in the car) to A&E, so perhaps an X-Ray will show something up, although I think they may keep her in!

Sorry to hear that - on top of your own worries. I hope they soon get Anne's back sorted - give her (and yourself) my best wishes.

Hi Trevor,
I have just shown Margaret this thread and she too cannot believe the rotten luck you are having just now but rest assured you will get through this, you are both resourceful people and where there's a will there's way.

Our only wish is that we were a little closer geographically as practical help is worth far more than mere words, give us a ring if we can help in any way at all.

Take care and best wishes to you both.

Mike & Margaret.

Hi Mike & All
Many thanks for the kind words, I have had Anne at the doctors and the hospital, in 21 years I have never see her cry with pain even during childbirth! Fortunately today there has been an improvement and she has been able to walk, so I think she is on the mend, perhaps it was a blessing that I have been here this week as I don't know how she would have been if I had been at work.

It looks as if I may get an interview from another industrial cleaning equipment service company, they are very professional and have a good name, so fingers crossed on this one, if it doesn't come off I still don't know what to do. I have been dreading going to the DWP or the "Broo" as we call it up here, so please keep all your fingers crossed, I'll let you know if successful.

So Sorry to here of your situation Trevor;
I know nothing of the labour market anymore as it's many years since I gave up work to look after "her indoors".
With the current "shower", in Westminster you could find yourself being offered your old job back but as a volunteer I am certain you will get fixed up with something and it could be better that what you had, You deserve a bit of good luck now
Hope it all sorts its self out for the better, for you and your Family.

I hope the interview goes well, but most important is Anne. Backs are funny things and she must rest. No carting TV sets around for a bit.

Best wishes to you both.

Cheers,

Steve P.

Hi Steve & All.
Well the interview didn't happen, I was supposed to be told on Thursday when to go but I never got the call, I waited till Friday so not to come across as desperate (to them anyway) but all I got was excuses. I will now have to go to the DWP on Monday something I was dreading. I have more problems to deal with too, during the time I was off ill, I signed up to a course for a driving instructor, there were problems from the start and to cut a very long story short went to a lawyer and finally the ombudsman, due to loads of mistakes made by the lawyer I am now saddled with a loan with interest of £9000. Due to fact I am out of work I cannot service the loan so may have to declare myself bankrupt, in Scottish law my assets can be sold off so it may be ta ta to the car and my vintage stuff.

Anne is making a little progress but a friend that does Reiki is coming tomorrow, I suppose its worth a try!

If the Lawyer made mistakes and you can prove that, then he is liable for the lot. Go to another lawyer or the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Your first priority is your and Anne's health. Then finding work if there is any about. But don't be used or trodden on.

Cheers,

Steve P.
