Default Teac x7 R Reel to Reel

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum. I have reciently aquired a Teac x7 r Reel to Reel machine. The Reel spindles (I don 't know if that is the proper name), I believe are made of cast. The casting has cracked, is there anywhere i can purchase new spindles, or is the only way finding another machine for spares?

Hi Matthew, and welcome.
I'm sure one of our tape experts will come in on this, but: any chance of a picture of the damage?

...of cast what?
Two more possibilities, maybe; repair the item or make another one? There are many products for repairing broken metal components.

Certainly looks like an aluminium alloy of some sort. If no-one on here has one (Doffery (Colin) might) than it ought to be possible to make the centre hub part and press it on.

The reel hubs are the same on the Teac X3, X3R, X7, X7R, X10, X10R, X20, X20R, X300 X300R, X700, X700R, X1000, X1000R, X2000 and X2000R, best place is Ebay, they do come up very often in the US and they are light making postage cheap.

Some months ago I made an enquiry to Teac for obtaining spare parts.

They refered me to Teac UK, and gave me the following contact details:
TEAC UK LIMITED
5 MARLIN HOUSE
THE CROXLEY CENTRE
WATFORD, HERTFORDSHIRE
WD1 8YA UK
92-381-9630
Internet: http://www.teac.co.uk/

I sent my enquiry to info@teac.co.uk and received a response from gabrielle.gamble@teac.co.uk

Bear in mind that Teac still holds spare parts for various reel decks and so you might be able to source a part.

I don't know if the reel plates are the same across the range of Teac Reel machines, as reel-to-reel-man suggests, but my X3R and X1000R DO appear to have the same plates. I haven't removed them for close inspection but from the outside they appear pretty similar.

I have been following ebay on various parts for Teac, Revox and Technics Reel decks over the past 6 months, and I can say that I haven't seen many parts offered. Only two cases of a broken for parts X3 and an X1000 that had it's PCBs broken.
