1940s(?) Elac speaker
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I recently bought an elac speaker that looks like it's from the 40s. I'm just wondering if anybody knows roughly the wattage the speaker is designed for as I plan using it for a project.
Thanks Peter |

Not a lot. Depends on size but even an 8" probably no more than perhaps 5-10W.

Re: 1940s(?) Elac speaker
With a three foot square baffle board this would sound good, I wouldn't want to give it more than a watt or so. It isn't HiFi but a fair 'speaker from the day. Super for things like Radio 4.

6"-8" I'd think 5W or less or, if 4" ish, 3W or less.

It's worth trying this with some audio before committing to it. If the sound is accompanied
by a buzzing sound, the coil might be rubbing on the magnet. Older speakers allow you to move the magnet and pole piece which may help, but later types don't have such adjustment screws. |

I actually tested it yesterday plugging it into the ext speaker socket on my record player, works fine and sounds good. Probably worth noting that the speaker is connected to a potentiometer wired up as a rheostat to act as a volume control
